Fall Brawl Results! Columbia, SC (7 November)

November 9, 2009

Fall Brawl had a good turnout and epic matches were had!  The Grand Finals for all 3 of the major tourneys were epic! The Street Fighter 4 Grand Finals between Automattock (Jibbo) from North Carolina and Battle Walrus from Augusta, Georgia was one to remember! The hype was through the roof!! The BlazBlue Grand Finals betweenKeyon and Raekwon187 was could have been a combo video. It was amazing to watch the combos go back and forth.  Arakune… what can you say? Let’s not forget the debut of Tekken 6 in Columbia!  This was the only tournament where South Carolina held it down. ScNinjaboy’s Tekken skills are really something. He took Paul Z to school initially but Paul Z adapted. It was a fierce fight after that but SCNinjaboy seemed to adapt himself and took home the victory!

USC: Fall Brawl this Saturday (7 Nov), Columbia, SC. Get Hype! It’s going to be big!

November 3, 2009

Fall Brawl is almost here, and it’s going to be massive!  Almost 35 players have pre-registered for Street Fighter 4 on SRK alone! This means it’s likely we’ll have closer to 60 or 70 players when the actual event hits due to door registrations from peeps coming in from USC and from seeing the flyers that have been posted around various game stores in the Midlands.  Over 20 have signed up for BlazBlue on SRK, which means at least 30 total at event-time.  Tekken 6 has just been released and its pre-registrations are climing too, but not at SRK because SRK is mostly a 2D fighting game forum.  Right now there are players from SC, NC, and GA.  The organizers of Fall Brawl have told me they could possibly expect over 100 people between the various games being offered!  This will be the largest tournament Columbia has had in recent memory (ever? has there ever been a larger tourney than this here?).

Visit the official thread here for more information and to pre-register!

Also they are having a poll to determine a retro fighting game to have at the tournament.  Go there and cast your vote on which game you want to play! I believe the retro tourney will be like $1 so it’s for the fun of the game.

If you want to get into tourneys or are just curious, this is the one to come to. I stress you do *not* have to be a good player to have fun at an event like this.  I’m personally entered into 5 games and I will be quickly eliminated in all of them. SF4 I may make it a bit farther, but not much! It’s all about the fun, the hype of the room and the matches, and watching some truly epic matchups!  Make plans this weekend to attend Fall Brawl. You won’t regret it!

Season’s Beatings 4: South Carolina Represent

Four South Carolina players made the trip all the way out to Columbus, OH for Seasons Beatings 4.  Matt (U-Volt), Dwaine (Award Tour), Keyon (Keyon), and Justin (SonGohanX) have now returned home and from what I’ve been told so far, the experience has been epic.  None of our players made it out of pools (each pool was a 32 player tournament where the winners advanced to the Semi/Finals tournament) in Street Fighter 4 but that isn’t a bad thing because the competition was top-notch including many pr0-class players.

BlazBlue is a game that South Carolina is pretty strong in, however, and Keyon is one of our top players.  Keyon placed 9th out of 85 players, apparently barely losing the match that would have put him in top 8 by some sort of “fluke”.  Justin also did pretty well, taking 33rd out of 85. Considering the level of competition, those results are something we can be proud of.

Aside from the tournament, they got to go to a real arcade! No, really! They do exist! They spent some of their down-time at the arcade playing Tekken 6, making people like myself who eagerly await it’s console release very jealous.

Matt was kind enough to take some pics from the event and publish them via Twitter. For those who didn’t follow his Twitter adventures, here are some of the pictures.

Augusta SUPER Tournament! Augusta, GA (3 October, 2009): GET HYPE!

September 29, 2009

While this isn’t a South Carolina tournament, the Augusta SUPER Tournament deserves special mention for several reasons. First of all it’s in Augusta, which is so close to South Carolina that it might as well be considered a SC tournament.  Moreso, however, I want to bring SC players’ attention to this tourney because of what the Augusta scene has done for our state.  Players have Augusta have traveled to tourneys in SC many times and really have contributed greatly to the scene, especially in the Midlands.  They are always hype, always friendly, and are always really tough competitors.  Let’s honor their contribution to our scene by supporting their tournament this weekend. It’s going to be hype! I plan to be there personally, so I hope to see some of you there! Now, onto the tourney details!

A word from the organizers: “I’m proud to announce another fighting game tournament in the “hype” city of Augusta, GA! Us players in Augusta have been traveling outta town alot lately to satisfy our hunger for SF4 and BB competition, and I think its time we invite you to come play at our home! Come get some’ Saturday, October 3rd at the Augusta SUPER Tournament featuring Street Fighter IV, BlazBlue, and the King of Fighters XII! (360 Marvel vs Capcom 2 aswell if enough interest).”

The Augusta SUPER Tournament

October 3rd is the official date!

The Tournament Center

Augusta, GA 30909
Google Maps link:

Door Fee: $10 ($5 if you pre-register!)
Game Fee:
SF4: $10
BB: $5
KOF12: $5
Marvel: $5 (if enough interest)
(We really want to get an idea of how many people plan to attend this tournament so please pre-register!! In this case, it won’t hurt to not pre-reg, and if you do, you’re saving yourself a good five dollars!! So please pre-reg!)

Do like so, visit the SRK official thread at:

Pot will be split like so:
1st: 70%
2nd: 20%
3rd: 10%
“Framed Trophies” too
(I want to assure you that absolutely NO money will be going to the wrong hands!! Myself and the rest of the Augusta crew are doing this for the love of the South East fighting game community and would never steal or profit from you!! If anything John and I have spent a good sum of our own money to help promote and make this tournament better than the average tourney! We have sacrificed much for this, and we hope it will all pay off in the end!)

Time: October 3rd, 2009
-Registration and casual play begins at 12:00pm
-Tournament starts 1:30pm
(Please be on time!! Everyone has stories of how that one tournament there and here started extrememly late and blah blah blah, so lets avoid a late start please and thankyou!!)
-If problems arise and you are late, please call me:
Druseph: 706-220-7349

-(and dont take for granted casual play!: some say the best matches you play are casuals at a tournament! I want to encourage more casual play at events like these because it’ll be the only time you can truly play the best players (lag free) just like in the ol’ fashioned’ arcades! Feel free to come early or stay afterwards on the tournament to knock out some casuals with Augusta’s and our neighboring city’s best players!! I promise it’ll help you!!)

System Format: X-BOX 360
(I know many of you play PS3 and its become the more common console since its been used at EVO, FR, and other major tournaments, but about 90% of us players in Augusta play 360 and our venue is full of several 360 stations, so 360 is going to be the format this time.

-No need to bring tvs or consoles to this venue! The only thing you need to bring is your controller (BYOC!). But if you are a PS3 player, there will be plenty of 360 sticks at this tournament and we will be more than happy to let you borrow them for your matches. Our main SF4 setup will be on 4 wide screen flat panels (lag free) so our tournament should run very smoothly just like the last one!

Universal Rules:
-SF4, BB, Marvel, and KOF12 will all be best 2 out of 3 rounds.
-All tournaments will be Double Elimination best 2/3 matches, 3/5 semi-finals, 4/7 Finals
–No Button Mapping (Default is allowed for pad players, but mapping throw and focus is doo doo straight up and is not allowed)

Games/ Rules:
Street Fighter IV
-Winner keeps same character, loser can choose differently

-Winner keeps same character, loser can choose differently

The King of Fighters XII
-Winner keeps the same team members and continues the same member order, loser may switch team members and member order

Marvel vs Capcom 2
-Winner keeps the same team, while the loser can switch teams.
-You may not use any glitch that prevent the game from being played. This includes game freezing, game resetting, player freezing…
-Deadbody infinites are allowed to gain a positional advantage, but not to delay the game.
-Button switching during the loading screen is allowed (e.g. Holding ASSIST 1 to switch your first assist with the point).
-You may not use the same character twice on one team.
(If not enough interest, this will not be run.)

Reminder: Quantum X “Social Fight” is this weekend!: Simpsonville, SC (26 September, 2009)

September 25, 2009

This is a reminder that Quantum X Game Center in Simpsonville, SC (Upstate) is hosting a gathering for anybody who wants to play fighting games!  There aren’t any “official” tourneys at this event.  It’s a time for fighting fans to get together in one place, play matches against one another in any number of fighting games, work on and talk strategies with one another, and in general to get to meet and to play against new players.  Just because there aren’t any planned tourneys doesn’t mean they can’t happen though. It’s easy to throw together mini-tourneys in any number of games or, if it’s your thing, even get some money matches on.  Street Fighter 4, BlazBlue, Soul Calibur 4, and UFC: Undisputed are just some of the fighters that will be there.  Other games will be there as well.

The event starts at 11:00AM on Saturday and will run until 5:00PM.  There is a $10 venue fee per player, but that’s a pretty sweet price as you are getting 6 hours of fighting.  There aren’t any prizes but, once again, money matches aren’t just allowed, they are encouraged!

The next G-Vegas Beatdown (scheduled for November) is planned to be held at this venue (just like the one held recently) and this event will also test some planned improvements for that upcoming event.  They are hoping to have 100 or more players for the next G-Vegas Beatdown! So if you want to be part of that, it is a good idea to come down, get to know where this venue is, get used to its setups, and so forth. There are just too many reasons to come to this, so if you don’t have a prior obligation, just do it!

You can pre-register at the official thread at:

USC “Fall Brawl” (Columbia, SC) postponed until 7 November, 2009

September 18, 2009

The organizers of the USC “Fall Brawl” have announced that they have delayed the event from its original date of 26 September 2009 to a new date of 7 November, 2009.  The good news is that the date is after the release of Tekken 6, so that game will be featured at the event instead of Tekken 5. It will be one of the first tourneys in SC to feature Tekken 6.  Here’s the update they made in the event’s official thread on SRK:

lGakmanl: “We came to the tough decision to postpone the tournament. We decided that we don’t want to interfere with Quantum X event and that if we take more time we can guarantee more. We are pushing the date of “Fall Brawl” to November 7. We are promising a phenomenal event and with perfection there is time. Due to the economy, GameStop has retracted there sponsorship but we will still add more to the pots of the major events. I am not sure what we will have but we are promising it will be worth the wait. This will also give us a chance to host the first big Tekken 6 tournament in South Carolina. Also, this is not a tournament for us, it is for SC. Any game that anyone want to put on the schedule is fine by us. We will do our best to have anything and everything. Trust me, you want to be here.”

Please make plans to attend this event. It is sure to be epic. If you haven’t pre-registered, or you already have but cannot attend on the new date, please visit the official event thread on SRK to do so.  The more people we have pre-registered, the more out-of-state players we will draw attention. The thread is located here:
