After a month long break, Play N Trade in the West Ashley area of Charleston, SC will be hosting it’s next Street Fighter 4 RanBat (Ranking Battle)! Co-headlining this event will be Madden 2010, and BlazBlue along with King of Fighters XII will see their first tournaments in the Lowcountry area!

For those of y’all just joining us, West Ashley Play N Trade has provided a comfortable, convenient venue for the competitive gaming scene in Charleston after over a year of not having any tournaments. For those who don’t know what RanBats are, it is an acronym for Ranking Battles. These are popular in high volume player areas such as Japan and Southern California.  Points are earned and accumulated to create a ranking of sorts for the area.  For the SF4 RanBats in Charleston, we use a fair and simple system. Everyone earns 10 points per player in the tournament, so just by showing up to a 16-man tournament you earn 160 points! Bonus points are awarded the higher you place, with 1st place gaining a 100% bonus! This means winning that 16-man tournament would net you a total of 320 points!

Typically, there is a different game every month. Previous titles include Call of Duty 4, Gears of War 2, Madden 2009, UFC Undisputed, and many more. These are regular tournaments that award prizes as well.

Bring your own controller or joystick:

We hope to have both systems available to provide for the different formats people prefer, but in the case where two players choose a different system, a coin will be flipped to determine what system the game will be played on. The loser then has the option of staying on the system and picking a different character, or moving to the other console and keeping their character. Of course, they don’t have to change characters nor do they have to change systems should they not wish to.

Street Fighter 4: Lowcountry vs. Midlands 5v5:

For the first time since Tekken 4 and Tekken 5, there are substantial communities in the three major areas of South Carolina (Greenville, Columbia, and Charleston). With the rise of the new blood in Columbia, a friendly (but competitive!) 5v5 was issued to the Charleston community. The best of both regions will battle it out for those in attendance for bonding and bragging rights!
