The idea of a regional 5 on 5 team showdown between Midlands (Columbia and outlying areas) and Low Country (Charleston and Myrtle Beach area) has been brewing for some weeks now. After some off and on debate, the first of hopefully many 5 on 5 team competitions for Street Fighter 4 will be happening at the Charleston Ranbat and tournament on 22 August (https://sctourney.wordpress.com/2009/08/05/82209-charleston-sc-sf4-ranbat-kof12-bb-madden-2k10/).
The event will be a round robin. Each of the 5 players will play every other player on the other team and the winner will be decided by whichever team has the most wins. Having multiple players using the same character is allowed on each team and character changes are allowed for those players who play multiple characters. The rules are pretty simple and that’s intentional.
It appears as though it could be a truly exciting event as players from both areas are rallying to organize their respective teams and to show support. The Low Country team is mostly picked with still some time for change (they have a system in place where you can challenge certain team members for a spot). The Midlands team seems to have chosen 3 out of 5 and is currently deciding who will take the last 2 spots as well as a spot as alternate.
There will be cameras there at the event for pictures and hopefully a bunch of match videos for those who can’t make it down. However, if you have a chance to do so, your team needs your support! I will update the blog when final teams have been reached as well as any other important details.
